Creation of the Antiimperialist Front of Ecuador
The People’s Struggles Defence Front – EC expressed its firm support for the establishment of the Antiimperialist Front of Ecuador, which it described as a valuable instrument of political and social coordination to strengthen the unity of the working class, youth, peasants and oppressed peoples.
In a public statement, the organisation highlighted that the new front is emerging in an international context marked, according to its analysis, by a deepening crisis of imperialism, intensified armed conflicts, economic pressures and processes of recolonisation. In this scenario, it warned that the powers that be are seeking to shift ‘the immense weight of their crisis’ onto the working class and dependent nations, increasing levels of exploitation and oppression.
At the national level, the statement notes that these dynamics are reflected in policies that they consider harmful to sovereignty, such as the expansion of extractive activities, concessions to transnational companies and security agreements that, they claim, could compromise the country’s self-determination. In response, they argue that the Antiimperialist Front of Ecuador represents a ‘historic necessity’ aimed at organising social resistance and channelling discontent into unified action.
The Defence Front also supported the call for the Founding Congress of the International Antiimperialist League, an initiative that aims to bring together various social sectors in a global platform against war, fascism and imperialist policies. According to the statement, the unity of oppressed peoples is the basis for confronting the economic and political structures that sustain these dynamics.
Finally, the organisation called on workers, peasants, students and intellectuals to strengthen internationalist coordination and solidarity. The statement concludes with slogans of support for the new front and for the unity of peoples in defence of sovereignty and social justice.
