In Mexico, as in many parts of the world, democratic, revolutionary, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist organisations actively and militantly support the demand for freedom for comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, the Lebanese communist who, in the struggle against the illegal occupation of his country, also supported the national liberation struggle of the heroic Palestinian people. We are currently strengthening this demand in Mexico by working to build the Anti-Imperialist League.
Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in the 1970s, after living closely with Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. At the end of the decade, he participated in the founding of the Revolutionary Armed Factions of Lebanon (RAF), an organisation that sought to extend the revolutionary armed struggle beyond the national framework to the imperialist capitals of Europe.
Comrade Georges Abdallah was arrested by the French police in October 1984 for using false identity papers while in hiding. However, these were minor offences that allowed for his immediate release. Yankee imperialism, in collusion with criminal Zionism, accused him of the double murder of a military attaché at the US Embassy in France and an ‘Israeli’ diplomat in 1982. On the basis of these accusations, Georges Abdallah was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987; In 1999, the sentence was overturned after an appeal. In 2003, a court granted him conditional release on the basis of an order expressly authorising the French government to do so. However, despite eleven applications, our comrade has not only not been released, but is currently the longest-serving political prisoner in old Europe. This year, he will have spent 41 years in prison.
Since November 2024, the court has once again approved his conditional release to enforce the sanctions, stipulating as a key point his deportation to Lebanon and his non-return to France, an order that should have been fulfilled since the beginning of December. However, the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office appealed, and the final decision has since been delayed following the intervention of the US State Department, which presented itself as a ‘civil party’ in the trial and argued that Comrade Georges Abdallah should not be released ‘because he opposes the occupation of his territory by Israel’.
The court hearing is scheduled for 19 June, and the United Campaign for the Freedom of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah (CUpLGIA) has called for a week of international solidarity, demanding the release of Comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah from 12 to 19 June.
The date coincides with the 39th anniversary of the Day of Heroism, when the world commemorates the communists and prisoners of war who bravely gave their lives in resistance to the tyranny and fascism of Alan Garcia in the prisons of Lurigancho, El Fronton and the Santa Barbara women’s prison in Peru (1986), where the prisoners fought to the death against the reactionaries’ plan of genocide, thwarted it and confirmed the moral, political and military superiority of the People’s War and the Communist Party of Peru under the leadership of Chairman Gonzalo and his almighty thought. In the midst of the People’s War, the political and war prisoners in Peru succeeded in transforming the prisons from centres of destruction of the enemy into shining trenches for the revolution.
From 12 to 19 June, democrats, revolutionaries, anti-fascists and anti-imperialists in Mexico and around the world have a great task: to raise the demand for freedom for comrade Georges Ibrahim Abdallah to the highest level!
From 12 to 19 June, we must all come together to strengthen international solidarity with the Palestinian people and their heroic national resistance: from the river to the sea, Palestine will triumph!
12 to 19 June is a good time to once again demand that the old Mexican state sever diplomatic relations with what they call ‘Israel’: Death to the damned Zionist entity!
From 12 to 19 June, let us honour the struggle and memory of the communists, guerrillas and activists who were massacred in Peruvian prisons but whose resistance thwarted the sinister plans of the Peruvian reactionaries and Yankee imperialism: Long live the Day of Heroism!
