AntiImperialist Front Denounces Accession to the “Shield of the Americas” as a Tool of Yankee Imperialism
This Tuesday the 22nd, the arch-reactionary president José Antonio Kast decided to join the “Shield of the Americas.” From the Anti-Imperialist Front, we denounce this coalition, supposedly intended to combat organized crime through intelligence sharing and military coordination, as nothing more than another means by which Yankee imperialism seeks to consolidate its domination over the region, ensuring that it remains its backyard: on the one hand, by preventing the advance of rival imperialist powers, and on the other, by providing more tools to the institutions of the old state, thereby intensifying repression against the working class, the people, and their organizations.
The media are making efforts to portray this accession as an attempt to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, a “fight” that in Chile has seen little progress or interest from the government. Meanwhile, the list of alleged “narco-terrorist” organizations opposed by this coalition of servants of finance capital includes some that have nothing to do with drug trafficking, such as the National Liberation Army of Colombia, an anti-imperialist guerrilla organization that refuses to abandon the struggle, and the Communist Party of Peru, which continues to lead the People’s War against the large landowners, the big bourgeoisie, and the imperialists.
