International campaign in tribute to Yetiş Yalnız and his comrades: Let Katyusha resonate across the world!
The Antiimperialist League (AIL) of Turkey is launching an international campaign in tribute to Yetiş Yalnız and his eleven comrades who fell on November 24 in the People’s War. Yetiş Yalnız was a revolutionary artist, but also a fighter in the service of the people. He dedicated his art, his voice, and his commitment to the revolutionary struggle. For him, music was inseparable from political struggle: it was an expression of resistance, solidarity, and the struggle of oppressed peoples.
It is in this spirit that we have chosen “Katyusha”, a Soviet song that became a symbol of resistance against fascism during the Second World War. Today, as far-right movements and fascist currents gain ground in several countries, this song remains particularly relevant. It recalls the history of antifascist resistance and the role that popular songs have played in collective struggles. Our internationalist commitment encompasses not only the struggle against imperialism, but also the struggle against fascism, exploitation, and the oppression of peoples. Through this campaign, the AIL of Turkey seeks to connect the memory of past resistance struggles with today’s political struggles.
By performing “Katyusha” in different languages, participants will give voice to this shared memory and express their solidarity across borders. We invite organizations, artists, activists, and everyone wishing to take part in this tribute to record a video of themselves performing “Katyusha” in the language of their choice.
The videos received will be brought together in a collective international tribute dedicated to Yetiş Yalnız and his eleven comrades.
May the memory of Yetiş Yalnız and his comrades live on!
Long live internationalist solidarity!
Antiimperialist League (AIL) of Turkey.
