Antiimperialist League Issues Statement for 1 May, International Workers’ Day
May Day Statement.
Dare to Struggle and Dare to Win!
May Day is the symbol of the centuries-long struggle, resistance, and hope-filled unity of the working class and laboring people. Today, across the world, workers, laboring people, oppressed peoples, and social movements are in the streets, shoulder to shoulder, as a single fist, against the crises, wars, and repression created by the capitalist-imperialist system. May Day is not just a calendar date, but a day of struggle when people take to the streets for international resistance against the capitalist-imperialist system’s ruthless exploitation of labor, especially that of women and children, through extremely low wages, and against inequality, striking fear into the bourgeoisie.
May Day is a day on which the working class has not only demanded its rights, but has won them through struggle. Extending from the legacy of the past into the future, this date is the banner of the common struggle of workers, peasants, youth, and women for human dignity. Today, from Istanbul to Kyiv, from Gaza to Brazil, from Chile to Colombia, from mass strikes in India against low wages to mass strikes and street mobilizations in the transport, education, and healthcare sectors in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany against austerity policies, pension reforms, and low wages, the demands rising across different geographies share the same essence: an end to exploitation, equality, and freedom !
Today, low wages, unemployment, precarity, migration, war, and poverty are the common problems imposed on the working class and oppressed peoples by the capitalist-imperialist order. While the cost of crises is always placed on the backs of laboring people, capital accumulation is maintained and wealth is concentrated in the hands of a narrow segment. Unjust wars, economic fluctuations, the rise of fascism, nationalism, and social exclusion are clear indicators of the system’s rotten structure.
The crises and wars created by the capitalist system have long surpassed national borders. The working class and oppressed peoples, in different languages and cultures, are linked together in the same chain. Today, international solidarity and a united struggle are a historical necessity. May Day is a call for a shared struggle, for social transformation and for building a just and free world together.
The ongoing war in Ukraine, the occupation and massacres in Palestine and Lebanon, the struggle over energy resources in Venezuela, the aggression against Iran, and the inter-imperialist strategic power struggles unfolding through Iran are fronts of the current crisis of the imperialist system. While the cost of these conflicts is paid by laboring peoples through migration, poverty, precarity, and death, wars and interventions are carried out to overcome the crises of capital and threaten the lives of the working class and oppressed peoples.
The Antiimperialist congress and new forms of struggle.
The first congress of the Antiimperialist League, held in Colombia, is the embodiment of the united struggle of the laboring classes and oppressed peoples at the international level. The congress presents a common perspective Imperialist and reactionary wars, occupations, economic sanctions, and ecological destruction, and emphasizes the central importance of organized struggle and coordination. No longer fragmented and scattered forms of resistance, but the building of a conscious, determined, and coordinated international line will open the way to the future.
Today is not a time to remain spectators, but a time to take sides and take action. Unity, struggle, and solidarity are the keys to the goal of a just and free world. Against imperialist aggressions, unjust wars, and occupations, the joint struggle of the wotiorkers and laboring people of the world, organizing in every factory, workplace, neighborhood, and school, and expanding the struggle, is a necessity for equality against exploitation and independence against imperialism. The perspective put forward by the Antiiimperialist congress places a clear task before us: to take our place in the international line of struggle and to strengthen it.
Our path does not allow for neutrality. Either we will be part of the crises and wars of the capitalist-imperialist system, or we will build an organized, united, and conscious revolutionary line of struggle. The international power of the working class and oppressed peoples, united like links in a chain, is the key to historical revolutionary transformation. Today is the time to take sides and struggle.
Long live May Day!
Long live the international unity of the working class and oppressed peoples! Dare to struggle and dare to win!
Unity, struggle, victory!
Long live the Antiimperialist struggle!
