Solidarity with the Venezuelan people and nation over the loss of life and the catastrophic situation caused by the earthquakes of June 24!
Antiimperialist of all countries, unite!
Last Wednesday, June 24, two strong earthquakes struck Venezuela, primarily affecting Caracas and La Guaira, a coastal city located 40 km from Caracas. Hundreds of buildings collapsed or sustained severe damage, and several regions were left without electricity, in a situation reminiscent of a war zone. So far, according to official figures, there are more than 1,700 dead, 5,000 injured, and 36,000 missing, in addition to more than 70,000 affected families. International humanitarian aid organizations estimate that some 50,000 people are missing. Among the dead are two revolutionary militants from the Venezuela Maoist Collective, an organization that advocates for and fights to reconstitute the Communist Party of Venezuela. The militants were identified as “Comrade A.” and “Comrade H.” on the Collective’s digital platform and described by the organization as “tireless servants of the people” who “join those who fell in the struggle for the Revolution.”
We at the AIL express our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and nation in light of the deaths, the injured, the missing, the affected families, and the entire current situation. Convinced that national and international solidarity is the responsibility we all share at this time, we have seen that the efforts in support of Venezuelans range from humanitarian agencies such as the Red Cross, to artists like the Venezuelan maestro Gustavo Dudamel and athletes, to governments and organizations throughout Latin America and Asia that are coming to Venezuela’s aid.
We would like to highlight the Venezuelan Maoist Collective, which, immediately after the tragedy, issued a call to all its members to offer aid and comfort to the entire population affected by the earthquake. They also issued a national and international call for unity and mutual aid, creating solidarity networks for those affected. For the Collective, responding to the aftermath of the earthquake is part of the grassroots work of revolutionaries, and “in times of crisis, the only effective response is organization and selfless, solidarity-based support among ourselves,” the Collective stated, adding that our strength lies in solidarity.
The Antiimperialist League (AIL) supports the call issued by the Maoist Venezuela Collective and calls on all progressive, revolutionary, democratic, and Antiimperialist sectors to act in the spirit of internationalism and to strengthen solidarity. For more information on the call, visit the Collective’sdigital media platforms.
Earthquakes and tsunamis are natural phenomena that we cannot control; however, the magnitude of the destruction and loss of life is not a natural occurrence, but rather a consequence of the exploitative system of the ruling classes and imperialism, which, driven by greed, seeks only to maximize its profits. With the technologies and knowledge developed by humanity, the conditions exist to mitigate the impacts and consequences of natural disasters. Let’s look at the mechanisms implemented in Japan: whether in building construction, urban planning, or early warning systems that enable a response to natural disasters. None of this is socialized because, under this system of exploitation, construction and development policies are aimed at increasing profits. The only way to better protect and safeguard human beings and all living beings is the revolutionary line aimed at abolishing the system of exploitation through a revolution that defeats imperialism. Only through the further development of revolutionary struggles and People’s Wars will it be possible to build a just system that establishes a world of peace with less suffering for all of humanity.
We, as the Antiimperialist League (AIL), share in the grief of the Venezuelan people over the loss of their loved ones.
The Antiimperialist League (AIL) stands with the oppressed people of Venezuela who were victims of the earthquake: we express our condolences to all those who lost loved ones, to the sick, and to the displaced.
Honor and eternal glory to “Comrade A.” and “Comrade H.,” comrades from the Maoist Venezuela Collective who died as a result of the earthquake.
The Antiimperialist League (AIL) calls on all progressive, revolutionary, democratic, and Antiimperialist sectors to respond to the call of the Maoist Venezuela Collective and to join the national and international call for unity and mutual aid.
The Antiimperialist League (AIL) calls for strengthening solidarity and the struggle of the oppressed!
