Antiimperialist League distributes leaflets in support of the Indian Revolution in downtown Recife

The activity in Recife took place as part of the international mobilization called by FACAM and the AIL. Throughout the leaflet distribution, activists received support from workers passing by.

Responding to the international call of the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization (FACAM) for a day of actions against Operation Kagaar and in solidarity with the New Democratic Revolution in India, activists from the Antiimperialist League (AIL) distributed more than 1,500 leaflets on the morning of March 28 in downtown Recife. Workers passing through the area expressed support for the Indian revolution and connected it to recent developments in the national and international political situation. Another person, who was previously unaware of the situation in India, came to understand the struggle of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) and its People’s War after an AIL activist related it to recent land struggles in Brazil’s Northeast and the advance of fascist paramilitary forces against militant peasant movements.

One passerby who received a leaflet condemned the caste system imposed on the Indian people by the Brahmanical-Hindutva fascism of the old state, led by Narendra Modi, and was encouraged upon learning about the uprisings of Dalit and Adivasi peasants in the heart of the country.

International Day of Antiimperialist Struggle

The activity in Recife is part of the international mobilization called by FACAM and the AIL.

In Rio de Janeiro, a demonstration with more than 200 activists took place against “Operation Kagaar” and the “Surajkund Plan.” During the protest, demonstrators burned effigies of the “cannibal” Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as flags of the “Great Satan” (USA) and the Nazi-Zionist entity of “Israel.”

After the demonstration, the National Founding Conference of the AIL in Brazil was held, as part of the mobilization toward the organization’s international congress in Quito, Ecuador.

Protests were also reported in other parts of the world. In London, the Anti-Imperialist Front (AIF), the Committee to Stop Repression in India, the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), and other popular organizations held a protest against “Operation Kagaar” and paid tribute to the People’s War in India. The protest brought together students, workers, intellectuals, and members of the Kashmiri diaspora.

In the United States, protests were held in Chicago and Washington in front of consulates of the old Indian state. Organizations present included Workers’ Circles, People’s Defense Committees, the Revolutionary Students Union, the Borikén Liberation Front, and the Jal-Jangal-Jameen Collective.

In Finland, the Antiimperialist Collective organized an event that brought together dozens of activists to discuss the People’s War in India and national liberation wars in Palestine and Algeria. Afterwards, activists carried out poster campaigns and public agitation, calling on Finnish workers for international solidarity and rebellion against the militarization of the Finnish state.

In all these international actions, activists paid tribute to Indian communist leader Nambala Keshava Rao, known as Comrade Basavaraj, who was killed in combat in March 2025 in the forests of Abujhmad, Chhattisgarh, during clashes between guerrillas of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), poor peasants, and the repressive forces of the old Indian state. Internationalist activists stated that “the example of sacrifice and communist heroism of Comrade Basavaraj is an example for all fighters of the world” and compared him to other leaders such as Yahya Sinwar, commander-in-chief of Hamas, who was also killed in combat in 2024. During the activity, a banner was raised reading: “Down with Operation Kagaar!” and “Long live the New Democratic Revolution in India!”

Throughout the leaflet distribution, activists received support from workers passing by. One of the people who received a leaflet stated that the People’s War in India has the same enemy as the Iranian people and recalled the expulsion of Yankee imperialism (USA) from Nicaragua in 1979.
