The National Conference of the International Antiimperialist League brings together more than 200 revolutionary activists in Rio de Janeiro.
The representative of the AIL in Brazil stated in his opening speech: “There should be no illusions about this system. The imperialist system will end up in the trash bin of history, it will be swept away. But this will not happen spontaneously; this giant with feet of clay must be overthrown.”
On March 28, a strategic event in the struggle of the peoples took place: the National Conference of the International Antiimperialist League in Brazil. The conference was held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of delegates and guests from all regions of the country. In total, more than 200 antiimperialists attended the event, including delegations of peasants from the League of Poor Peasants (LCP) and the Union of Communities in Struggle (UCL), along with workers, teachers, students, and intellectuals.
The Conference was preceded by a demonstration in support of the Indian Revolution and the Communist Party of India (Maoist), denouncing “Operation Kagaar” and the fascist government of Narendra Modi. Participating as delegates were representatives of popular movements such as the Revolutionary Front for the Defense of the Rights of the People (FRDDP), the Popular Women’s Movement (MFP), and the League of Poor Peasants (LCP); student organizations such as the National Executive of Pedagogy Students (ExNEPe), the Revolutionary Popular Student Movement (MEPR), Alvorada do Povo (AP), the Filhos do Povo Student Collective (CEFP), and the Honestino Guimarães Base Collective, among others; youth organizations such as the Red Unity – Revolutionary Youth League (UV-LJR); as well as trade unions and workers’ movements such as the Workers’ League, the Oil Workers’ Union of the Paulista Coast (SindiPetro – LP), and the Popular Housing League (LPM); organizations of people’s lawyers such as the Brazilian Association of People’s Lawyers – Gabriel Pimenta (ABRAPO); and popular and democratic media outlets such as the newspaper A Nova Democracia.
During the conference, an honorary mention was given to organizations and movements involved in building the Antiimperialist League in Brazil that were unable to attend due to geographical distance, such as the Mangue Vermelho Student Collective, the Carcará Collective, the Anita Garibaldi Movement, among others.
In their speeches welcoming the founding of the AIL, the movements affirmed their consistent antiimperialist stance. The representative of the AIL in Brazil stated: “There should be no illusions about this system… this giant with feet of clay must be overthrown.”
The representative of the FRDDP highlighted: “The development of the antiimperialist struggle today in West Asia, in Palestine, in Lebanon, and now strikingly in Iran confirms truths that Maoism had already put forward. There are three contradictions in our era: the contradiction among the imperialist countries themselves; the contradiction between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie; and the contradiction between oppressed peoples and nations and imperialism. This third contradiction is the principal contradiction of our time.”
The representative of the LCP stated: “Since the founding of the League of Poor Peasants, we have affirmed that the struggle for land in our country can only advance through agrarian revolution… We face three mountains of oppression: the latifundium, the bourgeoisie, and imperialism.” The hall then echoed with the chants: “Long live the Agrarian Revolution! Death to the latifundium!”
The representative of the MFP declared: “Women and children have been especially affected by imperialist policy… This occurs not only in Palestine, but in all countries where imperialism wages its wars.” The audience responded: “Awaken the revolutionary fury of women!”
The student organizations present denounced imperialist influence on education and emphasized the key role of revolutionary youth. The audience chanted: “We are students, we are not pacifists! Long live the antiimperialist struggle!” and “Serve the people wholeheartedly!”
After these speeches, the conference moved on to the reading and discussion of the Antiimperialist League’s program. The proposals were unanimously approved, demonstrating a high level of unity among antiimperialist activists in the country.
A pre-commission of the Brazilian section of the International Antiimperialist League was thus formed, and delegates were registered for the upcoming international conference to be held soon in Latin America.
The event concluded in a state of enthusiasm, with participants aware that they had just taken part in a historic moment for the anti-imperialist struggle in Brazil and worldwide. All present committed themselves to translating antiimperialism into practical actions in their daily struggles.
