Dortmund: Antiimperialists of the world, unite!

Under the slogan “Antiimperialists of the world, unite! Freedom for Palestine!”, a successful antiimperialist demonstration took place yesterday in Dortmund. In the run-up to the event, an alliance of various progressive, antiimperialist and revolutionary organisations had mobilised support for the demonstration with a joint call to action.
The demonstration was combative throughout, and the participants resolutely expressed their solidarity with all the exploited and oppressed people of the world, as well as their hatred of imperialism. Many Palestinian flags and those of other oppressed nations flew above the demonstration, alongside the flag of the International Antiimperialist League (AIL), for which people were also being mobilised via leaflets.
The speeches extolled the national struggle for resistance in Palestine, made clear the rejection of all imperialist aggression, and emphasised the need for the oppressed and exploited people worldwide to fight against imperialism within a united anti-imperialist front. Along the route of the demonstration, revolutionaries unfurled a banner several metres long, which was unveiled to the chants of ‘Death to imperialism’ from the demonstrators.
As is customary at demonstrations in support of Palestine in Germany, the police in Dortmund also attempted to intimidate the demonstrators, imposed pages of conditions in the run-up to the event and ultimately made several attempts to disrupt the demonstration. This did little to dampen the determination of the demonstrators, who were firmly united in their resolve not to be silenced on this day by arbitrary restrictions and provocations, but to actually express their views and thus hold a powerful, resolute demonstration.
