Bloody Sunday Commemoration in Derry
The Revolutionary Youth League and the Anti-Imperialist League of France were present in Ireland alongside comrades from Anti-Imperialist Action during the commemoration of Bloody Sunday.
Here is the speech from the video translated into English:
“Hello comrade, we are currently in Derry, where this weekend the annual march commemorating Bloody Sunday is taking place.
Fifty-four years ago, on January 30, 1972, fourteen Irish civilians were killed here in Derry by the British army during a demonstration for their civil rights.
This attack marked a historic turning point in the conflict between Irish republicans on one side and pro-British forces supported by the army on the other.
Following this, thousands of young people joined republican defense organizations, taking up armed struggle and direct confrontation with the British occupier.
The question of Irish independence and the republican struggle is the result of years of political and economic domination over Irish territories by the British Empire.
Ireland is an integral part of the anti-imperialist movement and has shown how the struggle against imperialist and reactionary forces must be carried out: through armed struggle and unwavering determination.
Despite the intensification of repression against republicans and revolutionaries in Ireland in recent months, our comrades here do not abandon the struggle. It is our duty as revolutionaries in France to express, by all possible means, our support for Irish activists and for the armed struggle in Ireland.”
