Antiimperialists Tear Up the Flag of the Spanish Imperialist State
According to a statement released on social media by the Spanish section of the International Anti-Imperialist League ( AIL ), activists of the organization gathered last Thursday, August 6th, to denounce the massacre committed by the Spanish State’s migration policy in Ceuta, where at least 150 people drowned.
During the demonstration, activists from the Anti-Imperialist League gave a speech and tore up a Spanish flag. This was a symbolic act of rejection and condemnation of the criminal and murderous policies of the Spanish imperialist State. After the demonstration, the National Police held the activists, identified them, and threatened to charge them with desecrating the flag. Should the legal proceedings move forward, the anti-imperialists would have to testify before a judge. If convicted, they would face a fine corresponding ranging from 7 to 12 months of day fines.
In statements to Servir al Pueblo, the AIL asserts that this incident demonstrates that ” freedom of expression does not exist ” when the nature of the Spanish imperialist State is called into question. As for the activists, they declared that “repression will not stop us” and that facing a fine, no matter how large, is nothing compared to “the blood of our African brothers and sisters murdered at the border by racist migration policies.”

After the action, the National Police held, identified, and threatened the activists with charges of “desecration the flag.” They’re dreaming if they think repression will stop us. 150 people have been killed at the border because of the racist and criminal migration policy of the Spanish imperialist State, implemented by its governments (including the current “progressive” government that bears responsibility for both the Ceuta massacre and Melilla massacre of June 24, 2022).
