Newroz in Zurich: A Celebration of Rebellion and Antiimperialist Struggle
At Zurich, Switzerland, the Antiimperialist League and the organization Partizan celebrated Newroz, affirming through this event its political and revolutionary character. This moment brought together participants around a celebration that is above all an expression of the struggle of oppressed peoples and a space for convergence among anti-imperialist forces.
Newroz, far from being a simple traditional festivity, is defined by Partizan as a celebration of rebellion. It historically embodies the uprising of the oppressed against systems of exploitation and domination. In this understanding, Newroz represents the awakening of the masses, their refusal to live under oppression, and their will to transform reality through struggle. In this sense, it is fully part of an antiimperialist perspective, affirming the necessity of opposing all forms of domination exercised by imperialist powers over peoples.
The fire of Newroz symbolizes this rupture. It is the expression of accumulated anger against injustice, but also of revolutionary hope. It represents the determination of peoples to break the chains of imperialism, feudalism, and all forms of reaction. Thus, Newroz is not only a commemoration of the past, but a present affirmation of the necessity of struggle, especially in the context of contemporary oppression.
From this perspective, Newroz carries a historical continuity: that of popular uprisings and organized resistance. It reminds us that peoples have never ceased to struggle, and that this struggle must today continue in a conscious and organized way. For Partizan, it is a moment to strengthen revolutionary consciousness, to develop the unity of antiimperialist forces, and to affirm solidarity among peoples in struggle.
In Zurich, this understanding was expressed through speeches and political discussions, as well as through a collective celebration combining songs, discussions, and moments of sharing, making Newroz both a moment of memory, resistance, and militant fraternity.
In continuation of this mobilization, poster campaigns were carried out to support the Antiimperialist League and strengthen its visibility. This activity is also part of the preparation for the commemoration of the revolutionary leader Ibrahim Kaypakkaya, planned for May, affirming the will to link the memory of past struggles with present anti-imperialist commitment.
