Communist Leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya Honoured in Linz
On the 53rd anniversary of his assassination, the final event in a series of commemorations organised by Partizan across Europe in honour of the Communist leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya took place in Linz, Austria. The event began at 14:00 on 24 May with a moment of silence in honour of Ibrahim Kaypakkaya and all those who have become immortal in the struggle for revolution and communism. Following the moment of silence, the Venge Sur choir performed party and military marches to mark the opening of the programme.
A video presentation prepared by Partizan Media was screened, focusing on the ideological break represented by the Proletarian Party—which Kaypakkaya, as its founding leader, bequeathed to his successors whilst dying under torture—and the communist surge that left its mark on the revolutionary upsurge of the era.
Following the video presentation, the crowd enthusiastically chanted the slogans “Our Leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya”and “İbo Lives On, TİKKO Fights On”. The event continued with the reading of a statement signed by the TKP/ML Central Committee, which stated: “Our task today is not merely to commemorate him, but to understand him. For history has shown: defeats are temporary. Liquidationism is corrosive. Despondency is surrender. The communist will, however, is to be reborn time and again in the bosom of the people, to defy defeats, to refuse to yield to despair, to face hardship head-on, and to fear not swimming against the current.” The TKP/ML’s message was frequently accompanied by the slogans: “Long live our Party TKP/ML, the People’s Army TİKKO, TMLGB”, and “Greetings to the Party from İbrahim to Mehmet”.
Following the speech, the Venge Sur choir took to the stage. As the audience joined in with the choir, folk songs were sung in unison.
At the event, Grup Şiar, who took to the stage, performed marches and folk songs about Kaypakkaya and the revolutionary struggle; following a rousing rendition of the march “I Will Not Forget 18 May” sung together with the crowd, Grup Mengene took to the stage.
Following the melodies by Ali Geçimli, born from the Kurdish nation’s historical resistance and legacy of struggle, the crowd gathered at the front of the stage danced the halay with Partizan flags.
Messages of greeting and solidarity were sent to the event by numerous revolutionary organisations from Turkey and Europe, including the ICL (International Communist League), the AIL (Antiimperialist League), the Communist Party of Brazil (P.C.B.), the MLKP, the MKP, and Der Vorbote. As the messages were read out, chants of “Long live revolutionary solidarity” were frequently heard.
Amidst a large and enthusiastic turnout, the event concluded with slogans after the crowd recited the Partizan Oath in unison.
