Antiimperialist Cultural Event ‘RESISTA!’ Carried Out in São Paulo
On July 4th, 2026, in Damata Casa Cultural in Sorocaba, São Paulo, musicians and other artists made a contribution to the anti-imperialist struggle, as the cultural event ‘RESISTA!’ took place for the first time. The event was organized by the Support Committee for AND and the International Anti-Imperialist League (AIL) Brazil section, and showcased a visual arts exhibition, political interventions, and musical performances in defense of anti-imperialist struggles in Brazil and around the world, A Nova Democracia (AND) writes.
The exhibition featured collages, paintings, photographs, videos, and graphic design pieces forming a timeline of anti-imperialist resistance, including contributions from indigenous and Quilombola people, national liberation struggles, and struggles for democratic rights, especially the Agrarian revolution. A rope running through the exhibition represented the timeline and tension between “imperialism and popular and democratic movements, like a tug-of-war” the curators explained.
Democratic-revolutionary organizations such as Dawn of the People (AP), People’s Women’s Movement (MFP), Red Unity – League of the Revolutionary Youth (UV-LJR), Workers League (LO) and Class-conscious Movement of Education Workers (Moclate) participated. The Support Committee for AND and AIL made opening speeches, AIL’s political statements and intervention underlined combating imperialism and criticized the Brazilian federal government’s compliance with international finance monopolies, the significance of historical struggles as a guide for current anti-imperialist actions, and the connection between educational challenges and imperialist forces.
Musical performances by popular artists and MCs Sagaz do Povo, Dina MC, and Ameaça Vermelha as well as the extreme metal band Norah reinforced the event’s themes, celebrating anti-imperialist struggle and denouncing the opportunism and crimes of reaction and imperialism.
