The Frente de Defensa de las Luchas del Pueblo – EC resolutely welcomes the founding of the Antiimperialist League of Ecuador, a valuable instrument of political and social organisation for the unity of the working class, youth, peasantry and oppressed peoples. Together, they stand in unyielding and persistent struggle against all forms of imperialism – especially US imperialism – and against its internal supporters: the big bourgeoisie, the large landowners, their subservient governments and the opportunism of the tamed left.
This greeting takes on special significance at a time when the crisis of imperialism is manifesting itself in increasing aggression, wars of plunder, economic blackmail and open re-colonisation. As the international appeal itself warns, the imperialists are trying to shift ‘the enormous weight of their crisis’ onto the shoulders of the working class and the oppressed nations, thereby further intensifying oppression and exploitation.
In Ecuador, this aggression is manifested in a policy of surrender: in opening up the country to the ruthless exploitation of its resources, in concessions and privileges for transnational mining companies, and in the normalisation of patronising security measures aimed at turning our territory into a chessboard for foreign conflicts and geostrategic plans against other peoples.
In view of this, the Antiimperialist Front of Ecuador emerges as a historical necessity – to organise resistance, raise awareness and transform popular anger into a united, disciplined, combative and unyielding force that strives for the defeat of imperialism.
We therefore support the perspective outlined in the call for the founding congress of the Antiimperialist League: that the strength of the oppressed comes from their unity, and that an antiimperialist organisation is needed to unite them and advance the struggle of the exploited ‘against imperialism and its foundations’.
In this vein, we welcome the efforts to forge a Liga Antiimperialista Internacional – as a global front against imperialist war, reaction and fascism, in the service of national liberation struggles and proletarian and popular movements around the world.
