Rally for Saif and Thiago Organized by the AIL in Valencia
Last week, we reported that the Antiimperialist League had called for a rally in the city of Valencia to demand the release of Thiago Ávila and Saif Abukeshek. The activists were members of the new flotilla heading to Palestine on a humanitarian mission and were intercepted by the Zionist navy in collaboration with the reactionary Greek government. Over the weekend, we learned that after days of torture in Zionist prisons, the flotilla activists had been released.
Like other mobilizations taking place across the Spanish state, the organizers decided to maintain the rally in order to:
-celebrate the release of the comrades;
-demand the liberation of all Palestinian prisoners.
During the days leading up to the rally, three more organizations joined the call: the CGT trade union (General Confederation of Labour), Manises for Palestine, and the Global Summud Flotilla.
The mobilization took place without any notable incidents. Around 50 people participated, chanting slogans against Zionism and demanding the freedom of all Palestinian prisoners. Several chants in support of the Palestinian national resistance were also heard, including slogans such as “Resistance is not terrorism.”
At the end of the mobilization, a Palestinian poem was read in both Arabic and Spanish, and “My Land,” a Palestinian song also in Arabic, was played. Finally, participants were called to join the mobilization on Saturday, May 16, commemorating the anniversary of the Nakba and organized by RESCOP, as well as the antiimperialist and anti-repression events organized by the AIL.
