May Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Austria
May Day, the day of unity, struggle, and solidarity of the working class, was celebrated in many cities across Austria with mass actions and marches. Thousands of people took to the streets to express their opposition to imperialist war policies, increasing aggression, and the usurpation of rights targeting the working class and laborers.
In speeches delivered during the marches, it was emphasized that contradictions among imperialist powers are deepening and that the danger of war is steadily increasing. Particular attention was drawn to the aggressive policies of the United States and Israel, and it was stated that the resistance and struggle of the world’s peoples must be strengthened. Additionally, the Austrian state’s economic attacks on workers and laborers, carried out under the name of austerity policies, were exposed.
Calls to strengthen the international struggle against imperialism and capitalism stood out during the demonstrations. Partizan, AGEB, and ATİGF supporters participated in large and enthusiastic numbers in the marches held in Vienna, Linz, and Innsbruck. During the marches, AGEB’s leaflet titled “To the Streets on May Day with an Antiimperialist Spirit” was distributed in both German and Turkish. Banners saluting the founding congress of the Antiimperialist League (AIL) were also carried.
Slogans such as “Long Live Proletarian Internationalism,” “Long Live May Day,” “Our Leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya,” “Hoch die internationale Solidarität,” and “Freedom for Palestine” were prominent in the demonstrations.
As every year, traditional May Day festivals were also held in Innsbruck and Vienna. AGEB and ATİGF participated in the events by setting up stands.
INNSBRUCK
The march organized by the Innsbruck May Day Platform was carried out with the participation of many local and migrant revolutionary democratic organizations. The action began at 11:30 a.m. at Landhausplatz.
In speeches made at the rally, the importance of the day was emphasized, and operations carried out in Turkey against revolutionary democratic structures ahead of May Day were exposed. Following the speeches, the march began.
This year, an anti-imperialist bloc was formed including Partizan, ATİGF, ANTIFA, and Migrantifa. Throughout the march, which featured an AIL banner, speeches were made on political developments and slogans were chanted enthusiastically.
Additionally, propaganda was carried out for the upcoming commemoration event in Linz for communist leader İbrahim Kaypakkaya, and the Yeni Demokrasi newspaper was distributed.
VIENNA
The May Day march in Vienna began at 11:00 a.m. following speeches held in front of the Opera building. Supporters of Partizan and ATİGF also took part in the march with their own blocs.
